New Nissan LEAF wins first international award

The new Nissan LEAF has taken top honors at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) annual CES Unveiled ceremony, presented by the Consumer Technology Association.

With the announcement of the Best of Innovation award winners for 2018, before a crowd of tech industry experts in New York, the all-new, zero-emission Nissan LEAF won its first major international award. Nissan is aiming for many more to come.

As confirmation of Nissan’s leading investment in innovation, the Nissan LEAF 100% electric vehicle with ProPILOT (known as ProPILOT Assist in North America) and e-Pedal technologies took the following honors:

  • CES Best of Innovation award winner for Vehicle Intelligence and Self-Driving Technology
  • CES honoree for Tech for a Better World

Each year, the Consumer Technology Association announces its CES Best of Innovation award winners as part of the buildup to the January CES in Las Vegas. Nissan and the association will put on a special display of the new Nissan LEAF at the 2018 show.

“It is a great honor to have this early and important recognition for the new Nissan LEAF,” said Daniele Schillaci, Nissan’s executive vice president for global marketing and sales, zero-emission vehicles and the battery business, and chairman of the management committee for the Japan/A&O region. “This award recognizes products and technologies that benefit people and the planet, so it is fitting that the new LEAF has been honored. It is more than just a car. It is the icon of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, our vision to move people to a better world.”

The new Nissan LEAF brings a compelling package of everyday-useful innovations and technologies to more people worldwide than any electric vehicle has done before. The car is helping make the world a better place not only through innovation, but also through accessibility to more people. Additional capabilities such as vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-grid integration (availability depending on market) help owners know they can waste less and give back more.

The new Nissan LEAF is on sale in Japan and will be arriving at Nissan dealers in the U.S., Canada and Western Europe over the next two months.

Nissan sponsors Women’s Forum Mexico 2017

As it kicks off the Women’s Forum Mexico 2017 – the leading platform featuring women’s voices on major social and economic issues – Nissan reaffirms its ongoing commitment to gender equality and talent, sponsoring this Forum for the second consecutive year. The event takes place from November 8 to 9 in Mexico City.

Globally, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance has supported the Women’s Forum since 2006, providing an update on gender progress, diversity and equality every year. Nissan Mexico is proud to be part of the locally based edition and contribute with actions and solutions that encourage participation and greater opportunities for women in the country.

One of the main priorities of Nissan Mexico is to promote gender diversity and create an environment of respect, tolerance and inclusion within the company – all of them key elements for innovation and productivity.

In 2016, Nissan Mexico made history when Mayra González was appointed president and managing director of Nissan Mexico, making her the first woman to manage a regional Nissan company worldwide and the youngest person to hold such a position in the company’s history.

In the year she has been leading Nissan Mexico, Mayra González has encouraged a culture of inclusion as it is one of Nissan’s strategic values worldwide, while strengthening her commitment to attract the best talent. Currently, three women are part of Nissan Mexico’s executive operating committee in key areas including Human Resources, Compensations and Business Transformation, among others.

“Purchasing decisions in Mexico, not only within the automotive industry, are made by women,” said González. “Accordingly, for Nissan, a diverse group of talented people is the way we operate. One of my main goals is to attract, develop and retain the best talent to further drive the brand’s preference in Mexico, with more than eight consecutive years of sales leadership in the country”.

González also reaffirmed the importance of coaching and mentoring programs, conferences, certifications and debates held in Nissan Mexico to strengthen our corporate culture as well as the employees’ personal and professional development, regardless of their gender, racial origin or sexual orientation. Additionally, Mayra leads Nissan Mexico’s Diversity Committee which ensures inclusion and non-discrimination.

About this year’s Women’s Forum in Mexico, Mayra confirmed that the main topic will be how sponsorship is applied in the automotive industry as well as other industries and other countries to continue strengthening diversity and talent development.

Diversity Within Nissan: Key Figures

The percentage of women working at Nissan Mexico has shown a significant increase in recent years, particularly in leadership positions; some teams integrate more than 35% of female members.

The company will continue working with the goal of establishing a benchmark within the industry in terms of gender equality to surpass 20% of female participation in leadership positions for 2018.

Nissan sponsors Women’s Forum Mexico 2017

Nissan Motor Corporation reported 10.1% of managerial positions in Japan are held by women in 2017. According to the 2016 statistics from Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, this figure compares favorably with the average of 4.2% for all Japanese manufacturers with 1,000 or more employees.

Women comprise 8.1% of higher-level managers in Japan in 2017, more than quadruple the 2% in 2008. As of April 2017, women held 14% of all the managerial positions at Nissan globally, up from 7% in 2008.

Leadership and Female Participation at Women’s Forum

Mayra González will participate in the Women’s Forum Mexico 2017 in the panel “Do it! Being Leaders in our Sectors,” where she will discuss her experience in topics such as leadership, diversity and talent development, among others.

Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi sponsored the Women’s Forum Global Meeting which took place in Paris on October 5 and 6, 2017. During the meeting, senior executives from across the Alliance participated including: Véronique Sarlat-Depotte, Purchasing Alliance Global EVP and Chairman & Managing Director of RNPO; Melissa Cefkin, Nissan Principal Scientist, Design Anthropologist; and Béatrice Foucher, Renault VP Talent Management.
