Yamaha Motor to Launch Star Venture Cruiser for North America

Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Tokyo:7272) announced its all-new flagship cruiser-class model, the Star Venture, powered by a 1,854cm3 air-cooled V-twin engine, which will launch in North America this August.

The Star Venture is designed to satisfy the increasing demand for long-distance touring models that combine comfort, riding enjoyment and reliability. The standard Star Venture package will include full-dress features, such as advanced electronic control, large LCD screen and extensive storage, and the transcontinental version will feature additional equipment and features to further enhance the pleasure of long-distance riding.

The Star Venture will offer 1) a sophisticated infotainment system for more enjoyable riding, 2) a high-quality finish and body design befitting a flagship cruiser, 3) a new engine with YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) and a characteristic V-twin pulse and 4) SURE-PARK, the world’s first commercial motorbike electric-drive system for forward/reverse parking assistance*1 . The infotainment system’s audio components were designed for superb acoustics in collaboration with audio experts at sister company Yamaha Corporation.

The cruiser category now accounts for approximately half of total demand in the evolving U.S. motorcycle market. Full-dress cruisers have great market appeal as the perfect choice for mature couples looking for a relaxed form of travel. Demand is expected to remain stable among customers looking to step up to this class.

1) Infotainment System for New Dimensions of Riding Enjoyment
The Star Venture’s high-quality infotainment system for advanced acoustics, information and vehicle control is a Yamaha Motor first. The 7-inch touch panel enables easy operation of the audio and navigation systems, vehicle information display, heater and electric screen, and communication systems for telephone, radiotelephone, passenger communication, text receipt and more. Everything combines together to make journeys more enjoyable and rider inputs easier. (Specifications and functions vary depending on the package.)

2) High-quality Finish and Design
Yamaha Motor’s new ultimate cruiser is a synthesis of 1) robust power and enhanced riding pleasure for crossing continents, 2) sophisticated functionality for easy long-distance travel, and 3) infotainment and communication capabilities that enable couples to experience memorable journeys together.

The design, built around a V-twin fuel-injected engine emblematic of large-displacement cruisers, is expressed aerodynamically in lines connecting the front face, saddle bag tops and rear edges. Designer styling and surface finishing distinguish metal parts in the engine and body, special fin tailoring evokes a handcrafted look, and the speaker layout, seats and grips are designed with meticulous care for sensory and ergonomic pleasure.

3) New Engine Featuring Redesigned Air Intake, Exhaust System & Yamaha Chip-Controlled Throttle
This Star Venture is powered by a 1,854cm3 air-cooled OHV V-twin 4-valve engine. The all-new air intake and exhaust system, cam profile, and port shapes realize excellent torque combined with intake/exhaust tones suited to a grand cruiser. The Yamaha Chip-Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) system, a Yamaha Motor cruiser first, offers a choice of ultra-smooth touring mode and sharp-responding sport mode.

The newly designed engine layout has an air-intake path through the middle fairing, generating a pleasant resonating sound. Separate left and right mufflers create a well-modulated exhaust sound profile in both low- and high-speed ranges. The sound progression as RPM rises adds to the Star Venture’s distinctive character.

4) Convenient SURE-PARK System
Yamaha Motor’s unique SURE-PARK system provides convenient, accurate positioning for parking. The system uses electric drive for small forward and reverse movements at a speed of approximately 1 km/h, eliminating maneuvering difficulties sometimes associated with touring motorcycles.
