An extreme McLaren Gran Turismo racing car is today confirmed as an exclusive choice for gamers in the hugely anticipated PlayStation 4 title, Gran Turismo Sport, which will be available starting October 17, 2017.

The McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo was designed in response to a call from game creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, for vehicle manufacturers to design ‘visionary GT cars’ to compete in Gran Turismo Sport. While not a prototype for any future McLaren model, the Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo showcases the kind of car that McLaren could produce beyond 2030. Players will be able to choose from three liveries: Performance, Ulterior and Noir.

Designing for the virtual world and unburdened by production car constraints, the team that created the McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo pushed the boundaries of McLaren design well beyond current realities, while remaining true to inherent principles.

The design form of the McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo follows its function, meaning every single line and detail has a purpose. Just like McLaren’s road cars, the teardrop cabin and extensive glazing ensure exceptional visibility. And being single-minded in putting the driver first, meant an innovative approach to seating – the driver is positioned not just forward and centrally in the chassis, but lying on their front, with the rest of the car ‘shrink wrapped’ around them.

“We wanted to break new ground and to innovate and the McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo does exactly that. It puts the driver absolutely at the centre of the action, delivering a sensory overload with incredible sound and awe-inspiring acceleration. From the game player’s point of view, the driving experience in this car will be like nothing else: the amazing glass cockpit and the motorcycle-like driving position – with your head far forward, almost right above the front axle – combine to allow you to see exactly where the apex of the corner is so you can shave vital milliseconds off each lap.More than anything though, the McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo is a stunning looking car. The design form communicates exactly what the car’s mission is and what its intentions are: it’s the ultimate expression of the McLaren design pillars and principles we have already established, futured into the 2030s.” Rob Melville, Design Director, McLaren Automotive

McLaren pioneered the use of carbon fibre in Formula 1 and the strong, yet lightweight material forms the chassis of all McLaren road cars. Featured extensively in the upper structure and body of the McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo as well as in the chassis, carbon fibre helps to deliver a virtual kerb weight of just 1,000 kg.

The McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo features ultra-advanced active aerodynamic technology. Called Integrated Active Aero, it works by opening tiny aperture covers around air inlets on key surfaces during cornering to create drag and generate downforce, rather than moving the surfaces altogether. This gives the handling benefits of active aerodynamics with a reduced number of moving parts that benefits both complexity and weight. Centrally mounted carbon-ceramic disc brakes reduce unsprung mass and the driver is also able to monitor brake temperatures during racing.

Power comes from a break-through hybrid drivetrain. A twin-turbo, 4.0-litre McLaren V8 engine drives the rear wheels, while high output electric motors are housed in each of the front wheel ‘pods.’ Game players will be able to call upon maximum power of 1,150 PS, with 1,275 NM of torque available instantly from launch, thanks to the electric propulsion and all-wheel traction. Capturing the essence of the spine-tingling sound experienced when driving a McLaren at full throttle was a critical part of the McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo brief and as such, the exhaust system and hybrid drive work together to generate a unique thrill for the ears, even in the cabin.

“I created the Vision Gran Turismo project to give car manufacturers the opportunity to design something that has all of the characteristics of their brand, and will live on as a playable vehicle in Gran Turismo. Many of the cars have become legendary in their own right, continuing to shine for years and attracting players from different eras. For me, a car needs to be an extension of the driver; I am focused not just on the appearance, but on the handling, the sound of the engine, and the feeling you get when you are racing. So, it was an honour to work with McLaren to bring the Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo to life, and to put such a car on the circuits of Gran Turismo Sport for players to enjoy driving at the limit.” Kazunori Yamauchi, Gran Turismo creator, President of Polyphony Digital Inc.

Gran Turismo Sport, which will be available starting October 17 of this year, is the latest release in the world-renowned Gran Turismo series for the Sony PlayStation. Gran Turismo Sport gives players the opportunity to choose their preferred car from a range of production and concept vehicles and compete at one of 17 locations, including the Nürburgring 24 Hour circuit, Brands Hatch and other world-class circuits. Designed exclusively for the game, the McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo will join real-life McLaren models such as the McLaren 650S Coupe and 650S GT3.

McLaren Automotive will again participate in the ‘Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille’, having been at every edition of the glamorous gathering that this year celebrates its fourth anniversary. Sunday September 10, 2017 will see yet another stunning display of automotive excellence at Domaine Chantilly, including two new models recently introduced by McLaren, the McLaren 720S and the five-star awarded McLaren 570S Spider, the first convertible in the McLaren Sports Series. McLaren is particularly excited to be a part of the event this year as it provides an opportunity to celebrate McLaren’s new partnership with Richard Mille, the title sponsor.

An ambition of Chantilly is to bring back the elegance of the 1920s when vehicle manufacturers and fashion houses often joined forces to showcase the future of the motor car and couture. This year McLaren Automotive is paired with Columbian born designer, Haider Ackermann and will take part in the Concept-Cars parade with a McLaren 720S finished in Memphis Red. Known for his minimalist approach, Ackermann is an interesting pairing for McLaren, both brands being regarded for their unique aesthetic.

The 720S in Memphis Red in Performance Specification comes with a black, harissa red and carmine interior trim with visible carbon fibre a satin diamond cut wheel finish to complement the 10-spoke super light-weight forged wheels. The brands have chosen a stunning monochrome trouser suit with a twisted off the shoulder detail from the Haider Ackermann Fall Winter 2017 collection, a collection which was awarded enormous praise from the fashion industry.

McLaren Automotive will be looking to repeat their success from last year when they won the best match between couturier and car with their collaboration with avant-garde designer Jean-Paul Gaultier. McLaren showed a stunning MSO 570GT in Pacific Blue which was complemented by an exquisite design from Gaultier’s Spring Summer 2016 collection.

In addition to the 720S, McLaren will also be showing its newest car in the Sports Series, the 570S Spider. Launched in the UK earlier in the summer, the convertible has already received five-star reviews. The model on display at this year’s Chantilly Arts & Elegance, is a Luxury Edition in Vega Blue, an exclusive launch colour for the Spider. The specification includes a beautiful dark palladium roof, tan nappa leather interior and silver calipers to match the 10-spoke diamond cut wheels.

McLaren Automotive confirmed its partnership with watch specialist, Richard Mille, earlier this year. The Chantilly Arts & Elegance is an opportunity for both brands to celebrate the partnership and they will jointly be hosting a series of customer events during the weekend.

McLaren Automotive, the British manufacturer of luxury, high-performance sports cars and supercars, will be displaying cars from its Sports Series and Super Series ranges during the 67th IAA (International Motor Show) in Frankfurt, from September 14 to 24.

McLaren will be using the ‘Agora Platz’ outside area of the showground, allowing IAA visitors relaxed access to its vehicles. The newest member of the McLaren Sports Series family, the McLaren 570S Spider, which made its public debut in June at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, will be displayed next to Hall 11 of the IAA, opposite McLaren’s central location between Halls 3, 4 and 5.

The new two-seat, rear-wheel drive 570S Spider is the third bodystyle in McLaren’s Sports Series portfolio, lining up alongside the 570S Coupé and the 570GT. Combining the dynamic thrills and refinement of the 570S Coupé with the extra exhilaration of open-air motoring, the 570S Spider –which is hand-assembled in Woking, England – brings supercar attributes such as carbon-fibre construction, a mid-engined layout and extreme performance to the luxury sports convertible segment for the first time.

“McLaren has enjoyed five years of success in Germany and the IAA is the ideal event to display our range and offer prospective customers to explore the cars and experience the McLaren brand outside of our own facilities,” commented David Gilbert, Managing Director Europe, McLaren Automotive. “With interest in McLaren cars continuing to grow, by the introduction this year of the new, second-generation Super Series and our first Sports Series convertible, the McLaren 570S Spider, we are looking forward to further grow in the German market.”

Test drives of 570S Spider and 570GT will be conducted during the public days, with prospective customers experiencing a short and intensive drive to demonstrate the thrilling performance and exceptional driver involvement that McLaren Sports Series cars offer.

Additionally, a limited-edition McLaren 570GT – one of six created by McLaren Special Operations for the European market – will be shown during the IAA to an exclusive invited audience of McLaren customers behind closed doors. Further details of this vehicle will be revealed at a later date.

A truly striking, one-of-kind McLaren 720S makes its public debut this weekend at the illustrious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Monterey, California. The Bespoke division of McLaren Special Operations crafted the unique McLaren supercar, to the specification of entrepreneur and philanthropist, Michael Fux. McLaren Chief Executive Officer, Mike Flewitt, presented the car to Mr Fux in Monterey, ahead of it being displayed on the ‘Concept Lawn’ on Concours Sunday,

The exterior paint colour immediately identifies the car as being designed to order, a service available to all McLaren customers through McLaren Special Operations. Named ‘Fux Fuchsia’, the colour was created for Mr Fux by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited and subsequently redeveloped by MSO; Mr Fux will retain exclusive rights to its use on any other McLaren vehicle.

White Alcantara® floor mats, again with white stitching, complete the theme.

McLaren Automotive has teamed up with The Step2 Company, LLC, a large North American toy manufacturer, to create a unique model tailored to appeal to a small but very important audience.

The revolutionary 570S Step2 Push Sports Car was designed with family in mind, providing practical support for modern living by allowing parents to carry out their daily tasks or simply enjoy a leisurely stroll in the park without needing a conventional stroller. With a handy storage area under the seat that is perfect for stowing snacks and multiple cup holders to house that vital morning coffee and bottles of water, this stylish car lets toddlers rest their weary legs when the excitement of running around has worn off.

With its enthusiastic spirit to develop and create ground-breaking toys, Step2 shares many values with McLaren Automotive: just as McLaren is recognised as pioneering carbon fibre technology – used in all its cars since 1981 – Ohio-based Step2 is recognised as pioneering the ‘push car’ and its expertise and knowledge of the needs of children and parents alike was vital to the project.

The design brief for the 570S Push Sports Car was to create something fun that would captivate the intended audience, displaying engineering and design prowess. Designers from McLaren Automotive and Step2 worked closely together to replicate the essence of the real McLaren 570S; Step2’s Whisper Wheels™ give the car a smooth ride, the flat-based steering wheel offers excellent feedback and electronic sounds provide an exhilarating experience for mini-racers.

The new McLaren 570S Push Sports Car, which is officially licensed by Step2, launches initially in Ventura Orange. It will be available exclusively through Amazon.com US in September before rolling out later this year through leading global retailers and Step2.com. The RRP is $79.99.
