The Range Rover Velar has achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating

The fourth member of the Range Rover family scored 93 per cent for adult occupant protection, 85 per cent for child occupant protection and 74 per cent for pedestrian protection.

Velar features a comprehensive suite of safety systems, including Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection. The advanced technology can detect a collision risk with cars or pedestrians in the road ahead and automatically apply the brakes. The system was awarded a maximum six marks in the Pedestrian detection tests by Euro NCAP’s testers.

By combining strong crash protection with advanced active safety systems, the Velar helps drivers to avoid accidents while providing excellent security to mitigate the effects of a collision if the worst does happen.

The light, stiff and exceptionally strong aluminium intensive body provides the foundation for a five-star Euro NCAP score. Allied to pioneering suspension technology and a comprehensive range of driver assistance systems, the new Range Rover Velar is not just one of the most beautiful SUVs in the world – it’s also one of the safest. NICK ROGERS, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, PRODUCT ENGINEERING, JAGUAR LAND ROVER

Range Rover Velar secured an overall Euro NCAP rating of 83 per cent and is available with an all-star cast of advanced driver assistance systems including:

> Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection uses a forward-facing stereo camera to determine if a collision is imminent – full braking is triggered automatically to avoid collisions altogether, or to mitigate the effects

> Reverse Traffic Detection uses radar to monitor vehicles approaching from either side when reversing. An orange warning illuminates in the door mirrors to alert the driver to any potential danger

> Matrix-Laser LED headlights extend the range of full beam to 550 metres. The Adaptive Front Lighting system matches the light beam to the steering wheel angle, while the matrix technology selectively dims individual LEDs to maintain optimum light distribution without dazzling oncoming traffic

> Lane Keep Assist detects unintentional lane drift and applies corrective counter-steering to maintain lane position

> Driver Condition Monitor senses driver fatigue by monitoring steering, brake and accelerator inputs to provide alerts when tiredness is detected

> Intelligent Speed Limiter adjusts the vehicle speed when entering new speed limit zones

> Traffic Sign Recognition informs the driver of the current speed limit using the driver’s message centre instrumentation screen

New Discovery SVX- Land Rover Reveals All-terrain Champion At Frankfurt IAA

Based on the standard wheelbase Range Rover Autobiography, Sentinel delivers the supreme comfort associated with the world’s most desirable SUV allied to outstanding occupant protection.

Designed to withstand the most damaging and targeted of threats, including penetration by 7.62mm high velocity armour piercing incendiary bullets, this exceptional vehicle delivers lateral protection against up to 15kg Trinitrotoluene (TNT) blasts and defence against DM51 grenade explosions from both beneath the floor and above the roof.

At its core is a specially developed six-piece armoured passenger cell, made of super-high-strength steel, which provides world-class protection. The standard glass has been replaced by multi-laminated armoured privacy glass of optical quality.

The Range Rover Sentinel is fully certified to VR8 standard against ballistic threats by QinetiQ – an independent organisation that was formerly part of the British Government’s Defence Establishment Research Agency.

To preserve the Range Rover’s legendary ride comfort and handling the Sentinel’s suspension has been upgraded, while an anti-tamper exhaust, self-sealing fuel tank, auxiliary back-up battery and split-charging battery system provide added protection and security.

Run-flat tyre inserts – fitted to special 20-inch split-rim alloy wheels – allow the vehicle to be driven even if the tyres are deflated. So, however determined the attack, the Range Rover Sentinel can use the considerable performance of its 340PS 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine in conjunction with a specially calibrated ZF eight-speed automatic transmission to escape.

Land Rover is attending the Defence and Security Equipment International Exhibition at the ExCeL arena, London, from 12-15 September 2017 where the Discovery SUV will be on display. With seven full-sized adult seats and customary Land Rover all-terrain capability, the versatile SUV is available through Land Rover’s Embassy and Diplomatic programme.
